North Garo Hills District ::: Headquarter - Resubelpara
North Garo Hills forms the Northern most part of Garo Hills. It is the gateway to the entire Garo Hills region and shares a border with Assam. North Garo Hills District was curved out of erstwhile East Garo Hills District on the 27th July 2012 for Public convenience and better administration.
North Garo Hills is bounded by Goalpara, Assam on the North, East Garo Hills District on the South, Kamrup, Assam and West Khasi Hills District on the East and West Garo Hills District on the West.
The district headquarter is located at Resubelpara.
The district occupies an area of 1,113 Kms and has a population of 1, 36,325 as per census 2011. The district has 4(four) seats in the State Legislative Assembly comprising of Resubelpara constituency, Mendipathar constituency, Kharkutta constituency and Bajengdoba constituency. The district also shares the border with the Neighboring Goalpara district & Kamrup of Assam on its North and the North Eastern side. The North Garo Hills Police organization was restructured right after the creation of the district on the 27th July 2012.
The population in the district is a mixture of indigenous Garo tribes alongwith other minor tribes comprising of Rabhas, Hajongs, Kacharis, Boros. The climate is sub tropical with adequate rainfall. The people are an ethnic mix of Indo-Burmese-Tibetan ancestry.
