Details of duty leading to the death of the Martyr - On 9th September 2002, he along with DC/277 Padmalochan Sutradar, ABC Jenur Marak, IRBNC/215 Binosik Nongsiej, IRBNC/ 98 Sahison P Marak, IRBNC/184 Repingstone Kynshi and IRBNC /196 Wastingland Lyngdoh were proceeding to Chokpot from Baghmara for anti-insurgency operation in Police Gypsy No ML02-0305. On reaching at a place called Bolchugre Dodegitok at 1.15 pm a group of ANVC militants ambushed the Police party and opened fire from their AK rifles and lobbed powerful grenades on Police vehicle. As a result, the vehicle went down a gorge about 70 metres/feet and caught fire. All 5 (five) Police personnel including Dy. SP, Pechon A Sangma MPS were killed and burnt inside the vehicle along with their arms and ammunitions, wireless set and the vehicle destroyed completely. Only one IRBN C.W.L. Lyngdoh had managed to escape with multiple bullet injuries.The officer was awarded Meghalaya Governor's Police Medal for Outstanding Service (posthumously) on Independence Day Celebration, 2003. Police Public School, Tura has been named Pechon A Sangma Memorial Police Public School.
