Details of duty leading to the death of the Martyr - On 29.8.2001 at about 8.00 PM, while Const. Grebilson D Sangma alongwith his wife and son were about to retire to bed at Maheshkhola Check Post they heard the call from outside by name. He opened the door and suddenly 7 (seven) armed ANVC in Army uniform barged inside the Check Post (CP) Barrack and inquired about the other staffs. Finding no one they started to ransack the belonging of the staff and demanded to hand over the weapon from (L) Grebilson D Sangma. He did not hand over any weapon as no weapon were issued to the staffs then, they forcibly dragged him outside to unknown destination.The militants also threatened his wife with dire consequences.On that fateful night, nobody was present at the CP. H/C L. Tiwari posted at the CP that night, went to attend the funeral service of his relative at Nekora Village a distance of 1 Km from the Check Post. The next morning, on receipt of the information the available staff of Baghmara PS rushed to Maheshkhola and conducted search operation and recovered the dead body of (L) Const. Grebilson Sangma at the road side at Gumagre, Maheshkhola Borsora road. A case of murder, Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Preventive) Act, 1976 has been registered in Baghmara PS and investigated into.(L) Const. Grebilson D. Sangma was active in collection of information about the movements of ANVC/NSCN cadres in Maheshkhola area. Through his information, District Police could conduct successful operations and thus, several attempts by UGs to dominate Maheshkhola area were thwarted.There were report of rampant smuggling of timber by ANVC/NCSN in connivance with villagers of surrounding area to Bangladesh. On one occasion, the timber was seized jointly with Forest and CP staffs. Later one timber smuggler Nipilson Marak of Gandigiri who was suspected to have links with the UGs threatened both the staffs with dire consequences. (L) Const. Grabilson D. Sangma also passed the information about the collection of money by ANVC/NSCN from Maheshkhola bazaar which must have come to the knowledge of ANVC, and plan was hatched to eliminate all the staffs. After thorough enquiry it is ascertained that following ANVC cadres were involved in killing of (L) Grebilson D. Sangma: (1) Cosmos Sangma (2) Ithar Marak (3) Bandi Sangma (4) Loner Sangma (5) Newel Sangma (6) Birut Sangma from Konjoi village.
