Details of duty leading to the death of the Martyr - On 12th January 1996 at about 12:15 Hours, he was part of a Police road checking party which was detailed on specific targeted information of the movement of Armed Smugglers on Nongstoin Shillong road. While on duty a group of hardcore HNLC militants, opened fire with an AK- 47 on the unsuspecting Police road checking party, two bullets hit Late Beletson Sangma of his Unit( No. 13 Platoon (Mairang)) who succumbed to the injuries on the spot.
