(L) Dy. SP Pechon A Sangma, MPS

 

PechonOn 09/09/2002 at about 01:15 PM while Lt. Pechon Agitok Sangma, MPS, Dy SP (Hqrs), Baghmara along with AB Constable Jenur Marak, 4(four) constables from 3rd MLP BN (IRBN) namely (i) BNC/215 Benosik Nongsiej, (ii) BNC/98 Sahimson P. Marak and (iii) BNC/184 Ripingstone L. Kynshi, (iv) BNC Wastingland Lyngdoh were proceeding from Baghmara towards Chokpot with vehicle No. ML-02-0305 Gypsy being driven by driver constable Padmalachan Sutradhar for CI Operation Duty and on reaching at Bolchugre, Do'degitok at a distance about 3 KMs from Chokpot OP, the unknown ANVC militants started firing indiscriminately from their place of ambush and the vehicle went down the roadside into a gorge. The unknown ANVC militants also threw a hand granade toward the Police Gypsy causing fire and burning of the Police Gypsy and as result of which, all the aforesaid Police personnel died on the spot. However, BNC Wastingland Lyngdoh escaped with serious bullet injuries.

Governor of Meghalaya Medal for Gallantry was posthumously awarded to Shri Pechon Agitok Sangma, MPS. Police Public School, Tura has been named Pechon A Sangma Memorial Police Public School.

On 09/09/2002 @ 01:00 PM Pechon Agitok Sangma, MPS, Dy SP (Hqrs) along with 5 (five) constables, 3(three) from 3rd MLP BN (IRBN) namely (i) BNC/215 Benosik Nongsiej, (ii) BNC/98 Sahimson P. Marak and (iii) BNC/184 Ripingstone L. Kynshi were ambushed by suspected ANVC Militants by firing indiscriminately from automatic weapons and hurled Grenades at Chokpot Bibragre. As a result Pechon Agitok Sangma, MPS, Dy SP (Hqrs) and 3(three) IRBN personnel received bullet injuries and succumbed to their injuries at the spot.
